Long time no talk!
We know it has been awhile, but we decided to take a bit of a break – slow down a little and free up some time in our personal life. With that being said, we are back and have so much to share with you – starting with something super exciting… I’M ENGAGED (insert f.r.i.e.n.d.s scene here: Monica screaming off her balcony)!!
Its been just over a year now, but every time I look down at my hand I am instantly overwhelmed with all kinds of emotions. On August 24 2019, Jonathan asked me to marry him and I obviously said YES!

How we met…
Jonathan and I met 12 years ago… YES I have been waiting THAT long! We were 17 and crossed paths via instant messaging (msn for any of you who remember). He was best friends with my cousin and during one of our many family get togethers, she left me to “chat” with him. Jonathan has always been a smooth talker, and asked for my number after less than an hour of messaging back and forth… I clearly gave it to him. After meeting only twice in person and instant messaging for less than a month, he asked me to be his girlfriend! The first few years of our relationship were long distance – Jonathan played professional soccer in Europe. It wasn’t until he was home permanently that our relationship really transformed – I mean we were finally able to be with each other physically for more than a few weeks at a time! With all the phone cards, Skype calls, texts messages now in our past… Fast forward MANY years later…

The Proposal!
Aside from sharing a bottle over dinner, one of our favourite past times is visiting local wineries and indulging in some of our favourite whites and reds. With my dad being a Wine Club member, we make frequent trips to the vineyards so that day seemed like just another! If there is one thing you should know, I like control… this whole tripped was planned by Jonathan (a non planner) – imagine my anxiety! I asked many questions – what wineries are we going to? Where did you book our dinner reservations? Why are we not staying over night? And like he normally does, he handled my annoyance with such patience. Jonathan had booked tastings at Trius, Wayne Gretzky (all wineries we are regulars at) and a tour at Chateau de Charmes (a beautiful Parisian styled winery I had always wanted to go to)! We spent our afternoon sipping away at Trius and Gretzky’s before moving onto our tour at Chateau de Charmes. Our tour was private – how romantic! I spent the hour listening attentively, asking questions, swishing around my wine… while Jonathan spent the hour sweating and praying for me to stop asking questions so he could just do the damn thing! After learning about the beautiful oak barrels and viewing the gorgeous property, our tour ended in the vineyard – so insta worthy we had to take a picture! Jonathan, being a guy does not care for photos so it was when he asked for us to get closer to the vines I started to think… why! Why does he care so much about the background of our photo (hmmmm!)? As we posed for our shot, he suddenly turned around, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! The moment was perfect, it was surreal!
After calls to our families, Jonathan kept insisting that I wait to tell our friends… How could I keep this secret for any longer than 20 seconds? He kept insisting and here I was thinking “how romantic”, he wants this moment between us to last a little longer before the flooding of congratulations and shared emotions. He told me that my parents were at his parents house and they all wanted to celebrate and toast together, so to his house we went! It was a beautiful evening, so his parents insisted we spend the evening outside… to my surprise that evening included 40 of our closest friends (hmmm so that is why he wanted me to wait to tell our friends)! With the help of my girlfriends, my bestie (Sierra), my sister and Jonathan’s sister, our amazing parents AND of course Jonathan… this engagement was the ultimate, I felt like my heart was going to explode!

Was I surprised? Of course! The day was the most perfect, but Jonathan never fails to surprise and spoil me in the best of ways!
