For a while, we couldn’t figure out if it was “January Blues” or “February Blues.” Either way, we’re feeling BLUE and we know it’s not going away until the Spring is here to stay (hey, that rhymes!). All jokes aside, it’s important to stress that these “blues” are a real thing. The shorter days and longer nights of the winter months along with a lack of Vitamin D can really catch up with us. It can make us less productive, more tired and can even increase the chances of us getting sick. We did some personal research these past few weeks to find some relaxing ways to cope with the winter blues. Check em out and see what works best for you!
1. WELLNESS + SELF-CARE
- Essential Oils – Try diffusing Bergamot, Lavender or Lemon oils to uplift and enhance your mood
- Self-Care Day – Plan a mani/pedi day with some of the girls to get out of the house + socialize
2. MAKE IT TO THE GYM!
When we exercise, our brains release serotonin and dopamine – chemicals that make us feel good – reducing our chances of anxiety and depression. Not only that, working out keeps the body in tip-top shape, strengthening our immune systems and lessening our chances of getting sick. Sign us up!!
3. BRING OUT YOUR JOURNAL
Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts in order and goals on paper. Whether it’s daily or weekly, it’s a productive way to stay on top of those 2018 resolutions. More, it’s a great way to take care of your mind during these gloomier months.
4. PRODUCTIVE “NETFLIX-ING”
We’re all for binge-watching our favourite shows…heck we can’t stop half of the time! But, to stay alert and exercise our brains during the winter, we recommend indulging in interesting documentaries so that you’re learning and thinking critically, and relaxing all at the same time. And while you’re at it, drink some orange juice with your Smart Pop to up your Vitamin D intake!
(What we’re netflix-ing right now: New Girl, The Crown, She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry)
We’re no experts, but these few tricks have helped us a lot! Being teachers in a classroom all day, these have been amazing in helping us stay energized during this very Canadian winter! If you have any ideas you’d like to share, please post them in the comments!
