Being kind costs nothing. With everything that is going on in the world right now, this simple truth is everything. Bullying is something that doesn’t always end in the schoolyard. It happens in high school, in college, in the workplace and even in politics among grown adults. We’ve all experienced it, witnessed it or even participated it in it, sometimes unknowingly.
Today is PINK SHIRT DAY! Join us today and wear a pink shirt (or a bracelet – see below) as we stand against the fight to end bullying. It’s no secret that random acts of kindness can make a serious difference in someone’s day. Not to mention that everyone you walk by on the street is dealing with their trials and own tribulations. Taking extra initiative to be kind, even if its not reciprocated, can set a real example to others.
A Note from Sierra: theFOUNDATIONbracelet
Hi guys, it’s Sierra here. Bullying is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. I want to fill you in on the story behind why I decided to create theFOUNDATIONbracelet! When I was in high school, I was a victim of bullying. Some days I didn’t want to go to school, not because I was necessarily afraid, but because I could not take it anymore. The worst part is, is that I actually questioned what I could have done to bring upon this type of mistreatment and the reality was that I did nothing. Under no circumstance should anyone ever feel uncomfortable or nervous or even afraid to go to school. In spite of all of this, I was very fortunate to have an amazing support system of friends and family that helped me get through it all.
In March 2015, theFOUNDATIONbracelet was born out of an assignment I did for teacher’s college. theFOUNDATIONbracelet married my passion for jewellery, fashion and making a difference, even small, in the lives of others. It focuses on raising awareness and funds to help end bullying. My hope is that my bracelets can symbolize a way to help those being bullied express themselves, and also serve as a token of support at all times.
The bracelets contain three key components:
- A Wooden Bead: A reminder to build each other up, symbolizing a strong support system
- A Copper Bead: “A Penny For Your Thoughts” reminds us that someone, somewhere is there to listen
- A Coloured Bead: The colour you choose represents you! Different colours allow us to express our individual personalities unapologetically
Wear this bracelet to show your support against bullying and strive to help young people as they build the skills, strength and courage they need to improve their emotional health and well-being. Through starting this company, I have been fortunate to come across a lot of people that share my mission to end bullying. Together, I hope that we can rally enough support to finalize real change and truly make a difference in the lives of these children and young adults. But most of all, I hope this inspires you to be kind. For more information, please visit www.thefoundationbracelet.com.
